Red Package – Mangrove

Details

Experience the biodiversity of mangrove swamp, where you will learn about mangrove trees, their ecological importance and restoration of mangrove swamp efforts. Mangrove eco system are important where the main livelihood of the community is fishing. The mudflat and swamps are stopover and feeding places for the various species of migratory birds. The community is actively venturing into cottage industry as an alternative livelihood while promoting sustainable management and conservation of mangrove forest to others. Voluntourists spend time collecting seedlings, planting mangroves, learning about primates, birds and many other animals which call the mangroves their home.

Blue Package – Teaching Refugee and Special Children 

Details

Refugee School – According to UNCHR – The Refugee Agency In Malaysia, over 11,000 refugee children in Malaysia are of school going age. However, less than 40% of them have access to formal education. Come voluntour at our refugee school which has about 60 students mostly from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Voluntourists help teach English, History, Geography, Mathematics and Physical Ed.  The school is open all year round but closed on Malaysian school holidays.

Special School for Children with Different Learning Abilities – Voluntour at our special school nearby to teach and nurture children with intellectual disabilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, Down’s Syndrome and Aspergers. Help develop their skills and talents through art and music. Voluntourists also help with mobility via swimming twice a week. The school is open all year round but closed on Malaysian school holidays and is a bus away from Yellow House.

Green Package – Environment & Animals

Details

Turtle Sanctuary – Many stretches of our beaches are nesting grounds for turtles.  At the Turtle Sanctuary, you will have a chance to see Green, Hawksbill and Oliver Ridley turtles. Volunteer your time to clean the beach, teaching English to the village kids.  At night, voluntourists stay up and monitor the beach to see turtles nesting.

OR

Voluntour your time to assist our dogs’s recovery both in mind and body. The dogs at the centre are stray dogs with spinal cord or limb injury. Voluntourists can spend time bathing, tick washing and playing with the dogs.

Yellow Package – Combo

Details

The Yellow Package is  one of our most popular packages. This package is a mix n match of different things everyday. Voluntourists spend their days teaching at refugee and special school, helping rehabilitate dogs with spinal cord injury, tending our organic vegetable garden, swimming with special children, homeless hairwash and cooking for homeless people.  This package comes with a guided tour of KL City, dressing up in Malaysian traditional clothes and dinner with a view of the whole KL city!

Swimming with Children with Disability

Details

Every week, our volunteers swim with children with different intellectual abilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, Down’s Syndrome and Asperger’s. This exercise helps with their mobility and motor coordination.

Homeless Hairwash – Thursday nights only

Details

Many of our street friends are depressed and resigned to the fact that they will forever be on the streets. The hairwash project is not just for hygiene purposes, but to motivate and empower them to be positive. Since we started in October, we have so far gotten job placements for 45 people. Voluntour your time to make a difference and give back to the streets of Kuala Lumpur. Tasks include washing hair, cutting hair and trimming of nails.
P/s – The homeless hairwash starts at 10pm and ends at midnight.

Soup Kitchen – Saturdays only

Details

Voluntourists spend the day preparing, cooking, packing and distributing a hot meal for some 400 needy and underprivileged aborigine families in Carey Island. After distributing the food, we usually engage the aborigine children in a game of football or duck-duck-goose.
